Western Washington University's Kara Zitzman tied for sixth in medalist play, and the Vikings placed third in the team standings at the Saint Martin's University Women's Golf Invitational Tournament, which ended Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Olympia Golf and Country Club.

The Vikings shot 327 for a 36-hole total of 663.

Tarleton State, ranked No. 8 in the latest Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, won the event by 24 strokes, shooting 310 for a 636 total. British Columbia was second at 660 (317) and Hawaii Hilo was fourth at 664 (328), one stroke behind WWU.

Zitzman shot 82 for a 161 total.

Taking medalist honors was Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea, who fired a 1-under par 72 for a two-day total of 153.

Kristen Hansen and Anna Bourland each shot 81 for the Vikings. Claire Rachor shot 83 and Katya Case shot an 87.

"The greens were a little more accommodating today, and the girls hung in there," WWU assistant coach Luke Bennett said. "They want to get back after it at our invitational."

The Vikings compete in their own 19th annual WWU Invitational at 9 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9, at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

WWU is looking for its fourth straight title at that event.
