LAUREL - Irene Reither Primary and Ten Mile Creek Elementary schools have been recognized for helping their students make healthier choices when it comes to eating and physical activity.
Both schools are HealthierUS School Challenge winners - receiving bronze prizes, which include $500.
Schools choose to enter the federal challenge, which was created to recognize schools participating in the National School Lunch Program.
As part of the effort, both schools in the Meridian School District are featuring healthy food on their school menus, as well as emphasizing physical education and activity.
More on the challenge is online at fns.usda.gov/tn/healthierus.
