BURLINGTON - Quarterback Austin Rapp rushed for 128 yards and helped lead Sehome to a close 30-29 Northwest Conference victory over host Burlington-Edison on Friday, Oct. 5.

The Mariners had a strong first half, scoring 27 points to the Tigers 14, but the Tigers came out tough in the third quarter.

"The team has been in three or four close games now," Sehome coach Bob Norvell said. "We talked about finish, finish, finish before the game, and I think we did just that."

Burlington-Edison quarterback Dalton Schwetz ran for 95 yards, including two touchdown runs, and threw for 108 yards.

In the fourth quarter, the Mariners barely missed a first down to turn the ball over, but struck back with a fumble recovery to have possession in the final drive.

Mariners cornerback Daniel Ziegler rushed for 71 yards and had 10 yards receiving. He also scored two touchdowns and a touchdown on a punt return, all while suffering from cramps.

"This win was a team effort, everyone from the coaches to the linemen worked hard," Rapp said.

The Mariners improved 2-4, 2-2 NWC while the Tigers dropped to 4-2, 2-2 NWC.

"We really wanted this win tonight and it was exciting to get it," Norvell said.

The Mariners play Squalicum at home at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.
