Most banks and federal offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 8, for Columbus Day, but most local government offices, schools, stores and restaurants will be open.

Also, expect heavy border traffic this weekend because Monday is Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Many places in Canada will be closed for that holiday.

Bellingham parking meters - enforced.

Bellingham and Whatcom County library branches - open.

Postal service - no delivery.

Services

Banks - most closed; call ahead to check status.

Garbage - regular schedule.

Whatcom Transportation Authority - buses running on regular schedule.

The Bellingham Herald - offices open, regular newspaper delivery.
