H Street in Blaine to close for two weeks during construction

Published: October 5, 2012

BLAINE - H Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic for two weeks starting Monday, Oct. 8, while the road is being rebuilt.

The closure will be from the Interstate 5 overpass west to Fourth Street, and will extend for part of the work period as far as Peace Portal Drive.

Detours will be in place during construction, scheduled to end Friday, Oct. 19. Businesses will remain open. Pedestrians may continue to use H Street, but they are asked to be extremely cautious.

The work, part of the H Street revitalization project begun in July, includes repair of the road bed at the I-5 bridge approaches, repaving, and some amenities such as trees and old-fashioned lighting.

Construction work is by Stremler Gravel of Lynden. The project cost was estimated at $420,000, with most covered by a federal grant.
