Squalicum shuts out Nooksack Valley in girls' soccer

Published: October 5, 2012

The Squalicum girls' soccer team defeated Nooksack Valley 8-0 in a Northwest conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Bellingham.

"We played a good game and did a good job of moving the ball around today," Squalicum coach David Kish said in a phone interview. "I thought the midfield did a good job controlling the game in the center."

Squalicum's Kim Hazlett scored first in the sixth minute off a pass from Lauren Gibb and scored the third goal in the 15th. Gibb scored the second goal in the 11th minute for Squalicum. Zoe Peterson, Julia DeVere and Lauren Wallace each scored one goal for Squalicum and Jackie Dierdorff added two more.

"The entire team played great defense, especially in the center of the field," Kish said. "We did a good job moving it out wide and getting it forward."

The Squalicum defense didn't allow a shot from Nooksack Valley.

Squalicum improved to 9-1-1, 6-1-0 NWC and will travel to Blaine on Tuesday, Oct. 9, while Nooksack (0-8-3, 0-4-3 NWC) will host Burlington-Edison.
