The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated Anacortes 2-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Meridian.
"It was a good bounce back for us after a disappointing result on Tuesday," Meridian Coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We had a really good practice yesterday and it was a turning point in the season for us. I was happy with the turnaround."
Janessa Murphy scored the opening goal for the Trojans in the 21st minute off a pass from Lexi McKinnon.
"It was probably Janessa's best game all season," Ames said. "When she is confident she is a really dangerous player. It was nice to see her play a game we know she is capable of because she has been dealing with some back injuries."
Taylor Lunde scored the second goal in the 58th minute.
Meridian improved to 7-2-2, 4-2-1 NWC and will host Ferndale on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
