Anna McNabb led the Bellingham girls' swim team to a 119-50 win over Ferndale in a Northwest Conference meet on Thursday, Oct. 4, in Bellingham.
"She came within two seconds of having what was the 24th best time last year in the 200 freestyle, which was good enough for a state wild card," Bellingham coach Jeff Anderson said in a phone interview. "That might not be the case this year, but it was close and a good swim."
McNabb is nine seconds from an automatic state time and swam it in 2 minutes, 17.03 seconds. McNabb had a district qualifying time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:17.50.
"She had quite the day," Anderson said. "We also had 39 best times, so the team stepped it up and raced really well."
Ferndale's Caitlin Wilhoite, Katie McCormick, Annalee Holmdahl and Alyssa Rankin won the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:23.46.
Bellingham is 3-2, 3-2 NWC and will play at Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Oct. 9, while Ferndale (1-4, 1-4 NWC) will play at Squalicum.
