Gunman in standoff was posting to Facebook as SWAT surrounded home near Birch Bay

BIRCH BAY - As a SWAT team surrounded his home Thursday afternoon, Oct. 4, a 23-year-old Birch Bay man was posting updates about the standoff to his Facebook page.

Nobody was hurt in the standoff that started when Levi M. Tucker fired several shots into the air at his house in the 4300 block of Bay Road, said Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks. Tucker is also accused of threatening - over the phone - to kill a friend of a friend, and telling people he wanted to commit suicide by cop.

At 3:50 p.m., minutes before police were informed of the threats, Tucker wrote on his Facebook page, "Somebody is going to (expletive) die today."

Surrounding roads were blocked for about a half an hour, starting at 4:30 p.m., while negotiators and the man's father convinced him to leave the house. Twenty minutes into the standoff, he told his Facebook friends, "Swat is here" (sic). He walked out of the house unarmed at 5 p.m. No shots were fired during the actual standoff, Parks said.

Tucker was booked into Whatcom County Jail on investigation of felony harassment.

Handguns and at least one rifle were believed to be inside the home. Deputies were obtaining a search warrant Thursday evening.
