The Sehome boys' tennis team set out a goal before the season started.

The Mariners are two wins from reaching it.

Sehome swept singles and doubles play to win 7-0 in a Northwest Conference match against visiting Lynden on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The victory improved the Mariners to 15-1, but more importantly to 12-0 in NWC matches.

With Sedro-Woolley and Anacortes left to play in the regular season, Sehome is two wins away from finishing the NWC schedule undefeated.

"One of our preseason goals was an undefeated season," Sehome coach Bonna Giller said in a phone interview. "At that time it might have been a little more lofty goal, but as the season went on I realized it wasn't a lofty goal. We still have two matches to play."

The Mariners were tested in doubles by Lynden. Sehome's Andrew Bruce and Jason Newell defeated Luke Reardon and Tobby Dalla Santa 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 while at No. 2 doubles Ben Carroll and Sam Humphreys beat Jay Roper and Mikal Olson 7-5, 7-5. Jake Albert and Evan Miksovsky won at No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-4 for Sehome over Trevor Dalla Santa and Brock Benner.

"Lynden came and played some solid doubles against us," Giller said. "Jake and Evan at No. 3, they played really well. It was one of their best matches together."

Sehome swept the singles matches - all in straight sets - with wins by Avery West, Nick Smith, Brady Anderson and Max Shmotolohka.

Lynden, which dropped to 6-6, 6-6 NWC, hosts Bellingham on Monday, Oct. 4.

Sehome, which won by a score of 7-0 for the 10 th time this season, hosts Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, Oct. 4.
