Lions defeat Mount Baker in 3 in Volleyball

Published: October 3, 2012

The Lynden volleyball team defeated Mount Baker 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Mount Baker.

"I think it was a pretty winnable game and we didn't go out and get it," Mount Baker coach Mary LeSage said in a phone interview. "Lynden made us play too much defense and we weren't able to attack the ball as much as we needed."

The Mountaineers were led by Abby Winterburn with seven kills, six blocks and two aces and Emily Yost with nine assists.

"Emily didn't get a ton of assists, but worked really hard for the team as a setter flying around," LeSage said.

Lynden was led by Brooke Bonsen with 12 kills and six digs, Maddi Hommes with 10 kills and nine digs and Kelsey Bouwman with eight kills and four aces.

Mount Baker fell to 0-7, 0-5 (NWC) and will travel to Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Oct. 4, while Lynden improved to 5-3, 4-2 NWC and will play at Lynden Christian Tuesday, Oct. 9.
