Jordin Bartel and Kelli Bannerman led the Ferndale girls' soccer team with two goals each as the Golden Eagles defeated Nooksack Valley 5-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Nooksack.
"We couldn't seem to get the system working for us in the first half," Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "They really rose to the occasion in the second half and started knocking the ball around and really enjoyed themselves. Nooksack isn't a bad team."
Kayla Downs also scored for Ferndale.
"I was impressed with Nooksack's play," Gonzalez said. "They played hard and had a lot of desire to win the ball. It was a good test for us today to see if we could keep possession."
Ferndale improved to 4-4-2, 4-2-1 NWC and will host Lynden Christian on Thursday, Oct. 4, while Nooksack Valley (0-6-3, 0-3-3 NWC) travels to Squalicum.
