WWU men's golf ties for third at Golfweek Invitational

Overcoming a six-stroke first-day deficit to lead by five with six holes to play, Western Washington University shot 13 over par the rest of the way to tie for third at the Golfweek Invitational Men's Golf Tournament, which ended Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Sunriver, Ore.

The Vikings shot a final round 294 for a 54-hole total of 878. They tied with Chico State (295) and Cal State Stanislaus (300), which led by three shots after two rounds Monday.

Hawaii Hilo won by one stroke at 12-over 876.

WWU's Mark Strickland shot 73 and moved up three spots to place sixth in medalist play at 217.

Evan Needham also shot 73 and climbed seven spots to tie for eighth at 219.

Jake Webb had WWU's best round of the day, an even par 72, and tied for 12th at 220.
