Officials for girls' basketball season needed

The Northwest Board of Women's Basketball Officials seeks referees for high school and middle school games in Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan counties.

"We're seeking men and women, ranging from college students to retirees, who will help us enhance the quality of girls basketball while supplementing their income," NWB president Ron Van Soest said in a news release. "We provide training and mentoring for all new officials."

If interested, there will be a meeting and training for new and returning officials at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at LaVenture Middle School, 1200 LaVenture Road, Mount Vernon. The season begins in late November.

OLDTIMERS EDGED BY BURNABY

The Bellingham Oldtimers hockey team lost to the Burnaby Winter Club 6-5 on Thursday, Sept. 27, in Burnaby, B.C., in the first game of the 80+ tournament.

THREE RING CIRCUS TOURNAMENT

Paul Berube and Shane Clark won the gross with a 66 in the first division of the Lake Padden Men's Club's Three Ring Circus golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 29. Mark Smith and Joel Wark won net with a 61.

Ron Dickerson and Dave Goss won the gross with a 71 in the second division and Mike Dinsmore and Darrel Butz won net with a 57.

In the third division, Dave Powers and Murray Kazakoff won gross with a 70 and Doug Yarwood and Jack Sanford won net with a 56.
