Deadline nears for Whatcom voters to register by mail, online

Published: October 2, 2012

Whatcom County residents who would use the mail to register to vote in the November general election, or to change their address, must get their form to the post office no later than Saturday, Oct. 6.

To ensure the postmark isn't late, the county Auditor's Office recommends mailing the form by Friday, Oct. 5. Mail the form to: Whatcom County Auditor's Office, 311 Grand Ave., Suite 103, Bellingham, WA 98225.

Forms can be picked up at the Auditor's Office or can be printed from the Secretary of State website, sos.wa.gov. Click on "Register to Vote" in the left column.

The last day to register or change a voter address online is Monday, Oct. 8. Use the same "Register to Vote" link on the Secretary of State's home page.

Voters who miss the change of address deadline can still vote by requesting a ballot from the Auditor's Office.

New Washington state voters who miss the deadlines can register in person at the Auditor's Office until Monday, Oct. 29.

The Auditor's Office will be closed on Friday, Oct. 5.

Ballots will be mailed to registered voters on Friday, Oct. 19, and must be returned by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. The ballot includes races for president, U.S. Congress, state offices, and statewide and local initiatives.

A sample ballot can be found at whatcomcounty.us/auditor/index.jsp. Click on "Election Division."
