The Sehome boys' tennis team dropped only five games total in singles and swept a Northwest Conference match against visiting Squalicum 7-0.
"Our singles played really well today," Sehome coach Bonna Giller said in a phone interview. "They were firing on all cylinders, as far as I'm concerned. Doubles, too, really. Squalicum's got some good doubles teams."
Avery West won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Nick Smith grabbed a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Tavo O'Connell and Johan Lahud-Zahner each only dropped one game at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
The highlight in doubles, Giller said, was a 6-4, 6-0 win by freshmen Reece Gilbert and Max Shmotolokha over Squalicum's Tyler Hoback and Carter Nickelson at No. 3. Squalicum's Drew Segren and Kevin Smiley managed to take the first set from Ben Carroll and Sam Humphreys, but lost 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Sehome (10-0) next travels to Burlington-Edison on Monday, Oct. 1, while Squalicum (3-7) will be at Sedro-Woolley.
