The Sehome cross country teams won the City Meet against Bellingham and Squalicum on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Lake Padden.

The boys' team scored 24 points, Bellingham had 35 points, Squalicum had 72 points and Lummi had 119 points.

"The boys ran great for Sehome," Sehome coach Mark Kerr said in a phone interview. "Our top four were spectacular, some of the fastest times in Sehome history. All three teams are ranked one through three in state so to beat them was a great day of racing for the Sehome boys."

Sehome was led by Conner Johnsen who finished first with a time of 13 minutes, 5 seconds. He was followed by teammate Reed Henderson with a time of 13:08.

"Conner and Reed set the tempo from the gun," Kerr said. "Their goal was to go after that 13-minute pace."

Bellingham's Joe Charbonneau finished third with a time of 13:11.

Nick Gallaher led the Storm with a time of 13:34, and Enrique Medina finished first for Lummi with a time of 15:30.

The Mariners girls team scored 19 points, while Bellingham earned 40 points. The Squalicum girls did not have enough runners and did not earn a team score.

"We had seven of the top 11," Kerr said. "We had a controlled race to get the top spots. Emily Pittis ran comfortably and Rebekah Oviatt was stellar. Abby Cybula who finished third for us ran great even though she had a head cold."

Pittis was second overall with a time of 15:42, Oviatt finished third at 16:16 and Cybula ran a 16:22.

"We had three freshmen finish in our top seven, which speaks volumes of how hard they trained," Kerr said.

Squalicum's Brittany Gappa finished first overall with a time of 15:16.

Bellingham was led by Bekah Jensen with a time of 16:18.
