Pioneers defeat Mount Baker in 3 in volleyball

The Nooksack Valley volleyball team defeated Mount Baker 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Mount Baker.

"Nooksack came out really strong and played aggressively," Mount Baker coach Mary LeSage said in a phone interview. "They came out right off the bat and overall they just outplayed us."

Mount Baker was led by Emma Lallas with six kills, Mariah Rowley with 16 digs, Abby Winterburn with four blocks and Emily Yost with 12 assists.

"Nooksack's McKenzie Impero hit really well tonight out of the back and front. She was just everywhere," LeSage said.

Mount Baker falls to 0-5, 0-3 NWC and will host Sehome on Thursday, Sept. 27, while Nooksack Valley (2-1, 2-0) will travel to Lynden.
