The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team lost 3-0 to Burlington-Edison in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Burlington.
"We just didn't match Burlington's physicality today, they were incredibly assertive and we struggled with the first touch especially," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "They made it really difficult for us all over the field. We did create some opportunites in the final 10 to 15 minutes and if we would have played with that intensity the whole match it might have been closer."
Lynden Christian outshot Burlington-Edison 8-5.
"Sara Dougan did a great job organizing things in the back and took some great set pieces," De Ruyter said. "At least three of her set pieces had to be saved. Courtney Hollander did well too. They marked her tight, they knew she was a threat and kept doubling her and she fought through it. I was proud of her for that."
Goalkeeper Daphnee Maderson had two saves in the effort for the Lyncs.
Lynden Christian falls to 4-3-1, 2-3-0 NWC and will host Anacortes on Thursday, Sept. 27.
