Lions play to 2-2 draw in Anacortes in girls' soccer

Published: September 26, 2012

The Lynden girls' soccer team played to a 2-2 draw on the road against Anacortes in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

"Overall we did pretty well," Lynden coach Kirstin Salminen said in a phone interview. "We just had trouble sorting out their girls in the middle."

Both of Lynden's goals were scored by Jayme Smits and assisted by Lexi Smiley.

"We did well getting the combo of both of our forwards working together," Salminen said. "Madison Wandel did a great job in the back and kept their more dangerous players from scoring. Our keeper Emily Holt had a great save in the last few seconds and kept the tie by pulling a free kick out of the corner of the net."

Lynden is now 2-6-1, 0-4-1 and will host Nooksack Valley on Thursday, Sept. 27.
