Mount Baker and Nooksack Valley play to 2-2 draw in girls' soccer

Published: September 26, 2012

Mount Baker and Nooksack Valley played to a 2-2 draw in girls' soccer on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Mount Baker.

"We played really well," Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "We had a lot of opportunities, we just didn't take advantage of them. We had more chances than Nooksack, we just couldn't capitalize."

Sarah Finger and Jessa Baisden scored goals for the Mountianeers.

Payton Linville scored both goals for Nooksack Valley, with her second coming in the final two minutes.

"We lost our assignments and Nooksack capitalized," Ellis said. "By themselves, our defense did a great job, there were just a couple breakdowns and they got us."

Mount Baker had two goalkeepers filling in for Jamie Johnson who is out for the season with a knee injury. Emily Brandland and Allie Whitson split time for the Mountaineers and had five saves.

Nooksack Valley is now 0-5-2, 0-2-2 NWC and will play at Lynden on Thursday, Sept. 27, while Mount Baker (2-4-2, 0-3-1 NWC) will host Sehome.
