Prosecutor: Everson man, 30, impregnated preteen, helped her to get abortion

Published: September 25, 2012

EVERSON - An Everson man was charged this week with raping and impregnating a preteen girl, then taking her to a doctor for an abortion.

Police are still trying to confirm the name and birthdate of the alleged rapist. Detectives believe he is a 30-year-old man named Luis Gonzalez-Jose, Jose Luis Gonzales, or something close to those names.

The man known as Gonzalez-Jose knew the girl. He is accused of raping her in June while her mother was in the shower. He asked the victim "if it was OK to have a baby with him," according to charging documents.

She replied that it wasn't OK. He took off the girl's clothes anyway and had intercourse with her, wrote Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elizabeth Gallery.

In early August, Gonzalez-Jose brought the girl to a Planned Parenthood clinic. She told staff her 14-year-old boyfriend had impregnated her. She did not reveal the boyfriend's name or address.

The clinic alerted Child Protective Services; CPS then alerted the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

Six weeks after the abortion, a detective spoke with the girl at school and she revealed that Gonzales-Jose had raped her. She told the detective Gonzalez-Jose insisted "it would be best for her" to get an abortion, according to the charges.

Everson police arrested Gonzalez-Jose last week on investigation of first-degree rape of a child and a U.S. Border Patrol hold. An amended probable cause statement was filed by prosecutors Monday afternoon, Sept. 24.
