Proposition 1, the Bellingham Home Fund, will be on the ballot this November. This seven-year low-income housing levy in Bellingham will provide funds to preserve and build housing for people with disabilities, veterans, seniors, very low-income families and people who are currently homeless. Take a look at the Bellingham Home Fund website, bellinghamhomefund.org. You'll find detailed and clear explanations of the proposal, including the safeguards that will insure the most efficient and appropriate use of this investment in our community.
The needs of one segment of the homeless population stand out. You may be as shocked as I am to learn that 15-20 percent of the homeless in Bellingham are children under the age of 10. The Bellingham School District reports one homeless student for every classroom in the district. We all know that research shows that children need stable, safe homes in order to grow into healthy and productive community members. Please join me and the many supporters of the Bellingham Home Fund. Invest in our children and vote for Proposition 1 on your November Ballot.
