Sophomore Lexi McKinnon scored two goals and got a little payback as the Meridian girls' soccer team earned a 2-0 non-conference victory Saturday, Sept. 22, at La Conner.
In the first game of the 2011 season, McKinnon scored a goal at La Conner but was injured a minute later, fracturing her femur and missing the rest of the season.
Meridian coach Andrea Ames said La Conner is a physical team and McKinnon shined in the victory.
"Lexi just played her game and wasn't afraid," Meridian coach Andrea Ames explained in a phone interview. "It was great to get out of there with a win and get out of there without any injuries."
Abbi Rautenberg had three saves in goal for the Trojans, who improved to 5-1-1 on the season, but Ames said the team needs to improve on finishing on offense.
"We had so many opportunities, but we just didn't really find the back of the net," she said.
Meridian hosts Squalicum at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Northwest Conference play.
