Bellingham boys' tennis sweeps Squalicum

The Bellingham boys' tennis team swept Squalicum 7-0 on Friday, Sept. 21, at home in Northwest Conference action.

In No. 1 singles, Shane Miller defeated Squalicum's James Tan 6-4, 6-4 and the Red Raiders also had singles wins from Charlie Carmichael, Brad Dale and Connor Thompson.

In doubles, Bellingham's No. 1 team of Auden Schilder and E.J. Troutman beat Squalicum's Aaron Morris and Zach Hart 6-1, 6-0 and the Red Raiders also had wins from the teams of Chad Cheldelin/Sam Ferguson and Logan Schilder/Nate Pearsall.

Bellingham coach Steve Chronister praised the play of Cheldelin and Ferguson, who beat Squalicum's Kevin Smiley and Drew Segren 7-6 (2); 4-6; 7-6 (8).

"The No. 2 doubles was two teams fighting hard," Chronister said in a phone interview. "I thought we had a number of kids who played their best tennis today."

The Red Raiders (7-2, 6-1) play at Burlington-Edison and the Storm (3-4, 3-4) hosts Lynden at 3:45 p.m. Monday. Sept. 24.
