Published: September 21, 2012

The Ferndale girls' soccer team defeated Sedro-Woolley 7-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 20, in Ferndale.

"Our girls played well today and learned from what they didn't do in the last game," Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "We had the chance to get people that don't normally play get a lot of time and girls playing in other positions. I was happy with how well they did. We moved the ball around great and didn't just play kick and run."

Ferndale's goals were scored by Jillian Monson, Michaela Vendiola, Ali Gonzalez, Jordin Bartel, Kelli Bannerman and Koral Weidkamp who tallied two goals.

"We moved the ball around with purpose today," Gonzalez said. "Hopefully today was a step in the right direction in our goal which is to get past that first game in districts."

Ferndale goalkeeper Vernell Johnson had one save in the shutout.

The Golden Eagles improve to 3-3-1, 3-1-0 NWC and will play at Sehome on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
