Pittis, Sehome defeat Ferndale and Blaine in girls' cross country

Published: September 20, 2012

The Sehome girls' cross country team almost had a perfect score against Ferndale and Blaine in a Northwest Conference meet on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in Ferndale.

"It was a great turnout Sehome of course is a big team," Ferndale coach Nick Carlson said in a phone interview. "Our top runner Makalee Latta took fifth and kept them from getting a perfect score. Sehome is very, very strong."

Latta ran the 5,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 34 seconds.

Sehome's Emily Pittis finished first with a time of 20:16 followed by Rebekah Oviatt with a time of 20:27 and Zanna Sullivan with a time of 20:37.

"Emily took it running away," Carlson said.

Sehome scored 16 points, Ferndale had 74 and Blaine did not score as it did not have enough runners.

Hillary Kiele finished first for the Borderites with a time of 23:16.
