The Bellingham girls' cross country team won a seven-team Northwest Conference meet on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Silver Lake Park.

Bellingham scored 46 points, Meridian had 69 points, Mount Baker had 90 points, Squalicum had 98 points, Nooksack Valley had 109 points, Sedro-Woolley had 117 points and Anacortes had 169 points.

Nooksack Valley and Mount Baker co-hosted the meet.

"I think it went well for the Baker team," Mount Baker coach Kristen Hayes said in a phone interview. "I know a lot of schools are racing this weekend so a lot of kids used it as a workout. I think Brittany Gappa, Mimi Meggison and Rachael Hatcher all used it as a workout."

Squalicum's Gappa finished first with a time of 19 minutes, 38.99 seconds. Meridian's Meggison finished at 20:08.40 and Mount Baker's Hatcher finished in 20:53.86.

"Rachael ran according to plan and I'm excited to see how she runs on Saturday," Hayes said. "She doesn't like holding back so I know she is excited to really run."

On Saturday, Sept. 22, Mount Baker will host the Mount Baker Invite at Silver Lake Park.
