The Bellingham boys' tennis team won each match in straight sets to defeat Ferndale 7-0 in Northwest Conference action on Monday, Sept. 17, at Ferndale.
The win improved the Red Raiders to 4-1, 4-1 NWC while the Golden Eagles dropped to 0-5, 0-5 NWC.
Bellingham's Shane Miller won at No. 1 singles over Ferndale's Trevor Koehn 6-4, 6-4. Despite the loss, Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola was pleased with Koehn's match.
"Our No. 1 is improving," Vendiola said in a phone interview. "That was probably the match that stood out. His strokes are coming around against a tough opponent."
The Red Raiders also had singles wins from Charlie Carmichael at No. 2, Brad Dale at No. 3 and Connor Thompson at No. 4.
Bellingham had doubles wins from E.J. Troutmant and Auden Schilder at No. 1, Chad Cheldelin and Nick Nolan at No. 2 and Logan Schilder and Nate Pearsall at No. 3.
Overall, Vendiola saw good things from his team.
"We are making progress," Vendiola said.
Ferndale plays at Burlington-Edison on Wednesday, Sept. 19, while Bellingham hosts Lynden on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
