Says child labor laws hurt work ethic

Published: September 18, 2012

I don't know Mr. Van Mersbergan or anything about his farming operation. So I have no opinion on his hiring practices. However, I do think we need to scrap the child labor laws and start over. As a small business owner, and talking to other business owners in the same field, it is hard to find good, dependable help. I believe this is because we don't teach children how to work. They get babied and party utill they are 21, and we just expect them to go out and be able to work eight hours straight and for five days in a row. Well, they can't and they don't. If we could hire children, work with them, teach them work ethic, they would be ready for the workforce when they become adults. I also wonder if out-sourcing started because of the child labor laws.
