Following up on Bob Alken's letter, I want to add my vote of appreciation to the Heritage Flight Museum for the flyover last week.
I too was lucky enough to see the P-51 and the two Spitfires as they made a turn almost over my house in the Columbia neighborhood. I hopped on my bike and headed for the airport, hoping to see the Spitfires on the ground, but, alas, they had already flown back to Everett. I like seeing the vintage aircraft at the museum, and always enjoy the Saturday flyovers of active aircraft like the AT-6, Skyraider and Mustang.
I'm old enough to remember seeing aircraft like the P-38 and P-39 flying over my California home on training exercises in the 1940s. I still have the spotters books from those days, the ones with the neat outlines of the (thankfully) never-seen Zeros or Messerschmitt 109s. Bring back the Spitfires and let us see them up close!
