The Sehome and Bellingham boys' tennis team split a pair of matches against Lake Washington and Sammamish during a crossover tournament Saturday, Sept. 15, at Sehome High School and Western Washington University.
Sehome coach Bonna Giller said she set up the mini tournament as a way to get familiar with new Class 2A additions and perennial tennis powers Lake Washington and Sammamish.
Sehome beat Sammamish 6-1 and lost to Lake Washington 4-3. Bellingham beat Sammamish 6-1 and lost to Lake Washington 6-1.
"I thought Brady Anderson played really well today," Giller said of her standout freshman, who won both of his matches, in a phone interview. "He had a tough first match, and pulled out that tiebreak after losing his second set."
Several performances by Red Raiders caught Bellingham coach Steve Chronister's eye.
"We had three matches where we came from behind and won sets," Chronister said in a phone interview. "Connor Thompson was down 6-1, 5-2, and won five games in a row and then won the super tiebreaker 10-1. He really got on a roll."
Sehome's Avery West won both of his singles matches, and Thompson was the lone Bellingham player to win both his matches.
Bellingham plays Ferndale next at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Ferndale High School. Sehome returns to the court against Lynden at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Lynden High School.
