LYNDEN - The Lynden Christian football team earned a 51-14 non-conference win Friday, Sept. 14, at home against Coupeville leading the entire game.

The Lyncs started out strong scoring their first touchdown 2 minutes, 55 seconds in the game on a 20-yard pass from quarterback Isaac Reimer to wide receiver Truman Van Dalen.

The Lyncs followed that touchdown up with a blocked punt and return for a touchdown by Josh Hornstra a little more than a minute later.

Coach Galen Kaemingk was impressed with the early effort.

"I loved the way we started, going for it on a fourth down and getting the conversion and then getting the return," Kaemingk said. "It was a great start."

However, in the second quarter the Wolves made a strong effort to pull ahead, scoring two touchdowns both by quarterback Gunnar Langvold.

"To give (the Wolves) credit, they made it a good game, but we played the ball I like to play in the third quarter by mixing it up and we had a good third quarter," Kaemingk said.

The Lyncs had a lot of strong drives in the third and fourth quarters, including a fumble recovery by Joe Kooiman and another fumble recovery and return for 97 yards for a TD at the buzzer by Jake Van Berkum.

"I don't remember much, just busting my butt (to score)," Van Berkum said.

The Lyncs improved to 2-1 overall this season.

"Next week we play a bigger school. This was a great game but we still have some things we need to work on before we head into conference play," Kaemingk said.

The Lyncs play at Anacortes at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.
