BELLINGHAM - Whatcom County urologists will offer free prostate screenings to 200 men Saturday, Sept. 22, at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center.
The exams are for men age 50 to 75. They're also available beginning at age 40 for black men, who are at higher risk of developing prostate cancer, and for men with a family history of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men, behind lung cancer, and one man in six will get prostate cancer.
Screenings begin at 8 a.m. and include a blood test and rectal exam. Advance registration is required for the 18th annual Community Prostate Health Screening.
The screening is free for the first 200 men who call 360-788-6701 to register. The cancer center will accept reservations beginning Monday, Sept. 17.
