Nielsen, Hegeberg lead Squalicum to win in girls' swimming

Olivia Nielsen and Josephine Hegeberg each won two individual events and the Squalicum girls' swim team defeated visiting Archbishop Murphy 119-67 in non-conference action Thursday, Sept. 13.

Squalicum improved to 2-0.

"It was a nice, smooth meet," Storm coach Steve Gibb said in a phone interview. "A lot of good quality swims."

Nielsen won the 100 butterfly with a state qualifying time of 1 minute, 2.7 seconds. Nielsen also won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.1. Hegeberg won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Other individual winners for the Storm were Maddie Dohm in the 50 freestyle, Shaye Fowler in the 200 freestyle and Tori Franzen in diving.

Squalicum swept the relays.

Gibb gave credit to relay swimmer Abby BonFeldt for a good day.

"She had some nice drops and had a great meet," Gibb said.

Squalicum hosts Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Sept. 20.
