Published: September 14, 2012

Ferndale won its first girls' swim meet in more than two years against Sedro-Woolley 89-78 on Thursday, Sept. 13, in Ferndale.

"We love swimming against Sedro-Woolley, we really have a comraderie between our two teams," Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. "We cheer for them, they cheer for us, it's a lot of fun. Our freshman really came through for us. We got the points from finishing high, not necessarily first. They swam hard."

Alyssa Rankin won the 100 freestyle for Ferndale with a time of 1 minute, 16 seconds, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:34.6.

Ferndale's 400 freestyle team of Krista Bergquist, Evie Dostal, Anne Marie Vandersyden and Cailtin Wilhoite won with a time of 5:29.35.
