The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team defeated Blaine 2-1 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 13, in Lynden.
The Lyncs were led by Courtney Hollander and Sara Dougan, who each scored a goal in the first half.
Olivia Olason scored the Borderites' lone goal early in the second half.
"It was a very hard-fought battle," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "Blaine really came out of the half and just battled for 40 minutes. They got that early one and got a little confidence and we had to hold them off."
Lynden Christian outshot Blaine 18 to eight.
"We struggled without finishing today, as you can see in the amount of shots taken," De Ruyter said. "I give our keeper a lot of credit today though. She did a great job and shut down a lot of one-on-one chances."
Daphnee Manderson had seven saves in the effort for the Lyncs.
Lynden Christian improved to 2-1-1, 1-1-0 NWC and will play at home against La Conner in a non-conference match on Monday, Sept. 17.
Blaine dropped to 1-4-0, 0-2-0 NWC and will play at Nooksack Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
