Kelli Bannerman scored a hat trick for the Ferndale girls' soccer team as it defeated Mount Baker 3-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 13, in Ferndale.
It was the first full game for Bannerman this year.
"It was great to have her back," Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "The whole team played well and knocked it around and made the other team chase it. We just need to tighten up our finishing. We always have room to improve and we will."
Ferndale outshot Mount Baker 24 to three.
Vernelle Johnson made two saves for the Golden Eagles.
"She got another shutout and had a fantastic game," Gonzalez said. "She was commanding and loud in the box. There wasn't a lot of action for her, but what she did have she really commanded well and owned it."
Ferndale improved to 2-2-1, 2-0-0 NWC and will play at Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Mount Baker dropped to 1-3-1, 0-2-0 NWC and hosts Friday Harbor in a non-conference match on Tuesday.
