The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated Nooksack Valley 6-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Meridian.
A Meridian team member was injured during the game and had to leave the field.
"It was really cool and special to watch the girls rally around it and do it for their hurt teammate," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "It was a really good team effort."
Meridian had goals from Taylor Lunde, Karissa Culley, Kendra Holmes, Anna Pimento and two from Haley Belanger.
"We were able to spread around the attack a lot and get a lot of people involved," Ames said. "There were also a lot of people that won't show up in the stat box that were highly productive. Lexi McKinnon did a great job drawing people in and took a lot of pressure off her teammates and played a critical role in our attack."
Emily Hamilton had 12 saves for the Pioneers.
Meridian improved to 3-0-1, 2-0-0 NWC and will play at Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Sept. 18, while Nooksack Valley (0-3-0, 0-1-0 NWC) will host Blaine.
