Meridian defeats Lynden Christian and Ferndale in girls' cross country

The Meridian girls' cross country team defeated Lynden Christian and Ferndale in a non-conference meet on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Lynden Christian.

Meridian had three finishers in the top five. Mimi Meggison finished first overall with a time of 20 minutes, 17 seconds followed by McKenzie Roque with a time of 20:46. Jayna Edmonds finished fifth with a time of 21:25 for the Trojans.

Meridian scored 31 points, Lynden Christian had 40 and Ferndale 45.

Marissa Hielkema ran a 20:52 for the Lyncs and finished third overall, while Makalee Latta ran a 21:19 for the Golden Eagles.

"The times weren't that fast today," Lynden Christian coach Darren Postma said in a phone interview. "I don't know if it was the heat, or if they are all tired from practice. I think Mimi ran a good race, though. She pulled away at about halfway and ran really strong."
