Squalicum's Brittany Gappa finished over two minutes ahead of all other runners and led her team to a win over Mount Baker and Lynden in a non-conference cross country meet Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Whatcom Falls Park with a time of 15 minutes, 10 seconds.

Patrick Gibson helped the Storm boys to a win with a time of 13:43.

The Squalicum girls scored 27 points, Mount Baker had 36 and Lynden 83. Kelsie Nern ran a 17:30.1 and Rachael Hatcher ran a 17:30.5 for Mount Baker and finished in second and third.

The Storm boys finished with 19 points, Mount Baker had 66, Lynden 86 and Lummi had 170.

Mount Baker's Dillon Quintana finished behind Gibson with a time of 13:46 and Dylan Dubuque from Squalicum finished with a time of 14:02.

"Everyone ran pretty well today," Squalicum coach Katrina Henry said in a phone interview. "A lot of people took this as a workout today, but overall everyone ran well. I think they were all happy I shortened the race a little too."

The race was shortened to 2.5 miles from 5K this year, Henry said.
