Outlook: The success Ferndale hopes to have this season will largely rely seniors Trevor Koehn, Taylor Walton and Matt Scott and their ability to quickly adjust to the level of top Northwest Conference competition. The Golden Eagles lost Arntsen and Hanson - Ferndale's two state participants from a year ago - to graduation. Coach Rudy Vendiola will look for Koehn, who played No. 4 singles last season, to immediately step into that No. 1 singles role. "(Koehn, Walton and Scott) will be the core of the team," Vendiola said in a phone interview. "They will also be playing doubles sometimes." Vendiola said his team is a bit behind, because Ferndale's tennis courts were getting a makeover during the summer, but he likes how his club is progressing. Rafe Stanage, a lefty, is another player Vendiola said he has high hopes for.
