In the universe of absurd efforts, the attempt to recall Russ Pfeiffer-Hoyt from the Mount Baker School Board for simply doing his job responsibly has to rank near the top. It makes Elvis sightings seem downright scholarly.
The fact that Russ has been singled out for recall when the entire board supported the land transfer I believe demonstrates how transparently hypocritical the effort is. My guess is that this mean-spirited effort is driven by personal politics, not a benevolent concern for our district's students. If it were the latter, they would see the decision for what it is: a win-win for both sides, particularly in light of current and future circumstances.
Simply put, Russ is the kind of person reasonable people want on their school boards. Russ has an established record of thoughtful stewardship and this business is not a piece of cake: long hours, no pay and always the risk that vindictive folks will poke their heads up. I'm a parent and have lived in the Mount Baker School District for 30 years. I am thrilled that Russ sits on the board. I'd hate to think that the recall effort is simply setting the table for an attempt to take Russ' seat.
