Whatcom County offices to close Friday in cost-saving move

Published: September 12, 2012

Whatcom County government offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 14, one of the 10 closure days planned for 2012 to save money.

It's the ninth of this year's closure days, during which employees take an unpaid day off.

Most county offices will be closed, except for district and superior courts. The ferry to Lummi Island will continue to operate with passenger-only service, as the regular ferry is undergoing annual maintenance. Senior centers and parks facilities will operate as usual.

The remaining furlough day this year is Oct. 5. The county expects to save $719,000 this year through the closures.
