Bellingham defeats Mount Baker in volleyball season opener

Bellingham defeated Mount Baker 25-18, 28-26, 25-18 in a volleyball non-conference season opener for both schools on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Deming.

"I was really happy with the first match of the season," Bellingham coach Kim Bjorklund said in a phone interview. "We played really well defensively."

Leading the Red Raiders were Olivia Bjorklund with eight kills, Tess Owen with five aces, Olivia Halverson with 16 digs and Cari Pearsall with nine assists. Bellingham had 76 digs as a team.

The Red Raiders play at Lynden on Thursday, Sept. 13, while the Mountaineers play at Ferndale on Sept. 13.
