The Ferndale volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, winning 25-23, 25-18, 28-26 in non-conference action Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Sedro-Woolley.

Elise Larson had six kills and Taylor Reid added three aces for the Golden Eagles (1-1).

Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said her team started slow but finished strong in the match.

"We battled and we won and a win is a win," Hoelzle said in a phone interview. "Our goal is to get better every day."

The Golden Eagles host Mount Baker to start Northwest Conference play at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.
