Squalicum swims past Bellingham in season opener

Published: September 12, 2012

Squalicum defeated Bellingham 115-70 in girls' swimming on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center in a Northwest Conference-opener for both teams.

Squalicum's Olivia Nielsen registered a state qualifying time in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 3.4 seconds. The Storm and the Red Raiders had 12 other qualified times for districts.

"Olivia had very good times," Squalicum coach Steve Gibb said in a phone interview. "It's not her best time, but for early season it's great. A lot of the girls looked good for early season and Bellingham is a good team, they swam hard."

Squalicum moves to 1-0 on the year while Bellingham falls to 0-1.

Bellingham will host Lynden on Tuesday, Sept 18, in a conference meet. Squalicum will travel to Archbishop Murphy on Thursday, Sept. 13.
