I believe Deborra Garrett is the best candidate to be our next Whatcom County Superior Court Judge. She has 30 years of experience in various areas of civil law with many years as one of the top employment lawyers in the state. She helps employees and businesses write employment manuals that protect the rights of both. She has been a judge pro tem and an arbitrator for many years. She has mentored a number of high school and law school students, and lawyers, including me, to do legal work for the community. Deborra is a careful listener, is respectful of all parties even when she is advocating for one side or the other, and is an excellent interpreter of the complicated laws and cases that are the bases of all cases. Her careful decisions are law centered and equitable and show a real understanding of the law and life. She raised her two kids in Whatcom County as a single mother for many years after her husband of many years died. She has support education and been on the boards of Womencare Shelter and many other community groups. She is a partner in a local law firm so has personal experience with the needs and concerns of small business owners. I can't think of a better addition to our bench than this experienced, respectful, compassionate, concerned legal expert, community advocate and successful single mom.
