Young hunters will have an early opportunity to hunt for waterfowl and upland birds later this month. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife is holding a youth-only hunt for ducks, geese, pheasant, California quail, bobwhite and chucker on Sept. 22-23.
To participate, hunters must be 15 years old or younger and be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old who is not hunting.
Goose Management Areas 2A-2B are not open for Canada geese during the hunt.
There should be plenty of local ducks available for the youth hunt, said Dave Ware, game manager for the state.
People interested in taking part in the youth hunt should note all the special weekend season rules in the Migratory Waterfowl and Upland Game Seasons pamphlet at wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations.
