Smits' hat trick helps Lions top Friday Harbor

Lynden girls' soccer forward Jayme Smits recorded a hat trick to help propel the Lions to a 5-1 non-conference win against Friday Harbor Saturday, Sept. 8, in Friday Harbor.

Smits scored two first-half goals and put away her third in the 68th minute off an assist from Senaida Veliz.

"She did great up top," Lynden coach Kirstin Salminen said of Smits. "Her last goal was beautiful."

Kellie Fiebig and Camryn Boulette scored first half goals to give the Lions a 4-0 lead at halftime, and Salminen praised the defensive work of Bailee Mulder, who Salminen said "was very solid for us."

Lynden's next match is against Meridian at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Bender Fields in Lynden.
